Governance Structure
The structure of the Governing Body
Our formal Instrument of Government states that the Governing Body comprises:
-
Two parent governors, elected by parents
-
One Local Authority governor, appointed by Bristol City Council
-
One staff governor, elected by staff
-
Twelve co-opted governors, appointed by the Governing Body for their particular skills
-
The Executive Headteacher.
The way we work
The Chair of Governors is currently Maureen Salter.
The full Governing Body meets at least termly (six times per year) with an extra meeting at the start of Term 1 for procedural business including reaffirming its Terms of Reference, Role Descriptors, Scheme of Delegation and Code of Conduct. The Governing Body is supported by Named Governors for specific areas such as Careers, Equalities and Governor Development & Training.
Four Governing Body Groups enable more detailed scrutiny of specific areas. These are:
Curriculum
Finance
Leadership & Management
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
Current membership of the Groups and details of Named Governors is available here.
The Groups meet regularly to plan the focus of monitoring visits, to discuss strategic matters, and to scrutinise progress against the School Development Plans relevant to their areas of responsibilities.
